Do you ever feel like there are just not enough ho

Do you ever feel like there are just not enough hours in a day?!

This weekend felt like that for me. It flew by and I wasn’t able to get to half of my set to-do list.

It feels like nowadays we are always super “busy”. We have to check our calendars before we commit to anything. We have to literally carve time to make things happen.

It feels like we are constantly bombarded with a never ending list of tasks. And every time we check one off we go back and add ten more.

Our obsession with productivity is at an all time high.

It makes me wonder if our parents, grandparents and older generations were as “busy” as we are. Were they constantly juggling hundreds of things?

I am currently in a busy season of life and I am slowly learning to prioritize and create a new balance for me.

I highly recommend Christy Wright’s book, “Take Back Your Time” if you’re in my boat.

It’s that time of the year when family traditions are embraced. Here are some of our thanksgiving traditions:

🤎We host a Friendsgiving the weekend before the Holiday, with all our close friends.

🤎We play thanksgiving themed games such as: Thanksgiving Pictionary, Thanksgiving pass the present, Thanksgiving Truth or Turkey and Thanksgiving word scramble. (This year we had presents for the winners, which made it extra fun and competitive!)

🤎We also play family games such as Uno, Jenga & cards so the kids can join us and play along!

🤎Sharing what we are thankful for before we eat

🤎This year we added a new tradition of wearing matching Thanksgiving PJs and remembering to take a picture to savor the memory

3 𝚁𝚊𝚗𝚍𝚘𝚖 𝚝𝚑𝚒𝚗𝚐𝚜 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚖𝚊𝚢 𝚗𝚘𝚝 𝚔𝚗𝚘𝚠 𝚊𝚋𝚘𝚞𝚝 𝚖𝚎👇🏻

✨I was born and raised in Libya, until I moved to the states with my parents at the age of 12. The culture shock was real! So, as a teacher and now as a mom, I sympathize with the new kid in school. The kid who can’t speak English. The child who feels like they just don’t fit in. The kid who feels like their worlds have been altered. Because I was once that kid.

✨I know a little bit of American Sign Language (ASL). I earned my masters in Special Education but specialized in teaching the Deaf and Hard of Hearing and it was life changing. It put a lot of things in perspective and helped me become a better teacher to my current students.

✨I have a terrible memory when it comes to certain things but a vivid memory when it comes to other things. For instance, I can memorize lyrics word for word, remember random people’s names (like a waiter at a restuarnt), remember where I parked my car but I won’t remember movie names, how much something costs, or what’s in my fridge/freezer when I am food shopping 😆

📚The Housekeeper is a psychological page-turner with plot twists and most importantly a meaningful ending!

The thriller novel is about revenge, lies, holding onto grudges and how all these things can change your life and change who you become.

I especially loved listening to the book on @audible which was read by Susie Berneis. She was outstanding!

“Invisible Girl” is a thriller novel that’s full of mystery, drama and character study. It’s about how people are not who they seem; they often wear masks and disguise who they really are.

I wanted to love this book, but it was a slow burner for me. It had its plots and twists but not enough to keep me on the edge of my seat. Some parts felt like they were just dragging. Some felt like they were predictable.

I liked the ending, although it feels like it ended abruptly.

As a teacher, I always get asked by my colleagues and students why I am not dressed up for Halloween. “Ms. Hanna what are you for halloween?” And I jokingly reply, “I am myself, Ms. Hanna”

Is it odd, being one of the very few in school who are not dressed up? Yes. Is it exhausting having to explain to everyone why you don’t have a costume on? Yes.

So I get it and I sincerely sympathize with our younger children who may not have built up the courage or confidence yet to explain why they don’t celebrate Halloween. Why they are not in a costume?

I think this is where our role comes in as parents. I am thinking of Danny as I write this. I hope to be able to teach him that he is different. That he is not meant to blend in or fit in with everyone. I hope to teach him that it’ll be hard but its going to be okay because it’s worth it. God is worth it.

Now more than ever we need to be intentional about how we raise our children. What values do we want to instill in them? What kind of people do we want them to grow up to be?

Today’s post was inspired by my work as a teacher and a new mom who is trying to set the right foundation her child. A new mom who is trying to right the parenting wrongs of our families.

So here are the 3 values that are important to teach children at a very young age:

1. Obedience—It starts at home. Model being obedient to your spouse and/or family members using phrases like: “yes", "sure", "of course" “would love to"
2. Apologizing—When children see adults say sorry to one another or even to them; it speaks volumes and apologizing becomes easier for the child.
3. Saying “thank you”—Model and encourage kids to say thank you for the big things as well as the small things until it becomes a habit. It's a sign of respect and appreciation.

Everyone’s postpartum Journey is unique. As a first time mom I wish I knew what I know now. I find it interesting that no one really talks about postpartum and what that looks like. Maybe because its too personal? Intimate? Maybe because they don’t want to scare expecting moms?
